WIP RW 10/28 Thursday evening

Good Afternoon all, to complete the prep work started yesterday there will be work carried out this evening 1700-2100 on RW 10/28 in the vicinity of RW16/34. heavy machinery and large vehicles will be on RW 10/28 for the duration and close to RW 16/34. I have to get this work completed prior to asphalt work tomorrow morning and hopefully, subject to a CAA visit next Thursday, be able to reopen RW 10/28 and I am sure you understand that. There is no link in the tower to liaise with this work so you must give way to the work in progress should you be intending to fly this evening, thank you for your patience and understanding. Mike Boot.

Runway 04/22 back in service

OPNOT 2017-02 is being issued announcing the return to use of rwy 04/22. The rwy was withdrawn over fears that the surface could be ripped-up under heavy braking action. Expert opinion has been sought enabling us to bring the rwy back into use following temporary repairs. The rwy may be used by aircraft which do not require a licensed aerodrome. Permanent repairs are planned after which all operational restrictions may be removed.

Vaughan Meers

Many will be aware that Vaughan Meers, who contributed so much to Halfpenny Green in his organisation of the popular “Wings and Wheels” events at the airport over many years, sadly died unexpectedly. Vaughan’s drive and enthusiasm for the event will long be remembered by all of us here.

Safety Evening – March 10th

We’re pleased to announce another GASCo Safety Evening, to be held on March 10th 2016 from 19:30 in Bobbington Village Hall. This will be coupled with a short presentation from Birmingham Airport on the subject of Airspace Incursions.

The last Safety Evening was well attended and well worth attending. I very much expect this will be a similarly thought provoking evening.

There is no charge for this event (even the tea, coffee and biscuits are free) and all are welcome, wherever you fly from and whatever your level of experience.

Bring your logbook to get a stamp in it!

Many thanks to Tony Dring for setting this up once again. For further information, please call Tony on 01384 221565 or e-mail him.
