Changes to aerodrome fire category

Following a review of aircraft movement data requiring Category 1 and Category 2 fire cover, the airport management team has decided to implement permanent changes to the fire category provision at Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport. This upgrade supports increased operational flexibility and reflects our commitment to accommodating a growing number of commercial movements.
A NOTAM will be issued effective 10/09/2025, and a request has been submitted to update the AIP. The change will be reflected in the next AIRAC cycle.
Fire category definitions and requirements can be found within Chapter 8 ‘Rescue and fire fighting service (RFFS)’ of CAP 168 – Licensing of Aerodromes.
Changes in Fire Categories
Operations Weekday Operations (Licensed Hours):
Category 2 fire cover will now be provided as standard.
Category 3 fire cover on remission is available on request with advance notice.
Weekend Operations (Licensed Hours):
Category 1 fire cover will remain standard.
Category 2 fire cover on remission is available on request with advance notice.
Night Flying Operations (Thursdays during winter months):
Category 1 fire cover only.
If the published fire category cannot be met temporarily (e.g. temporary degradation to Category 1 on a weekday), a NOTAM will be issued outlining the temporary change.
